I LOVE FRIED TOFU.
No really, I do. I grew up eating tofu, both as a dish on its own and as a part of a larger dish. Southeast Asian cooking uses tofu often, and its beautiful texture and ability to absorb flavors makes it highly versatile. This particular dish is made with the Moorish Spice Rub from Oil and Vinegar and soy sauce, a highly simple dish that only takes a few minutes to put together!
- 500 g hard tofu (it MUST be the hard kind, any other kind will break up and not fry properly)
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp Moorish Spice Rub (can use cumin, salt, and pepper as a substitute)
Completely dry the tofu with paper towels. Cut the tofu into 1-inch squares. Sprinkle the Moorish rub on the tofu and coat each side evenly with soy sauce. Heat a pan over medium-high heat with four tablespoons of hot frying oil (I prefer peanut). Fry tofu until golden brown and drain on paper towel. Serve with rice.
Yes this is a basic recipe, but it’s so good! The spice rub gives just a little flavor to the delicate taste of the tofu, and the tofu satisfies meat cravings in a snap. This is one vegetarian meal I simply cannot do without! ❤️
